Infobip to Enable Data Residency in Canada

Global AI-first cloud communications platform Infobip, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, has enabled data residency in Canada, making it easier for Canadian companies to protect consumer information, maintain business operations, and keep pace with changes in regional compliance requirements.

Privacy and security as a consumer priority have reached an all-time high in the last few years as a result of massive data breaches taking place, an increasingly complex mobile fraud landscape, and data demands brought on by AI’s increasing ubiquity. Regulations are being enacted by governments around the world to fortify data privacy and security, giving rise to data residency guardrails that require companies to store and process sensitive customer data locally.

While the long-term benefits for consumers are clear, companies working to meet data residency rules are met with data transfer issues, and businesses in heavily regulated industries such as healthcare and finance face additional stringent regulatory requirements. For Canadian companies, the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), the Consumer Privacy Protection Act (CPPA), and Freedom of Information and Privacy (FOIP) layer on additional data sovereignty, protection, and risk management requirements, further complicating compliance, data interoperability, and managing IT infrastructure silos.

Infobip has been working to secure data residency in Canada, leveraging our services and infrastructure within its data center. Today, the company is deepening its reach by providing data residency and compliance support for Canadian businesses, offering a competitive advantage that can drive growth, scale, and consumer confidence.

“Consumers are rightfully concerned about how their data is handled by the brands they do business with in light of the rise of AI, intensifying mobile fraud, and cybersecurity threats,” said Marcelo Frizzo, Vice President, Strategic Accounts of North America at Infobip. “Data residency and sovereignty requirements are critical for business growth and building consumer trust, but following these directives can give way to operational risks and infrastructure challenges. This initiative has allowed us to better understand how to reduce this friction so we can help Canadian businesses seamlessly navigate these regulations while maintaining smooth operations and boost consumer trust.”
